Daniels honored as Dealmaker of the Year - Advisor

Miller Johnson attorney Dustin Daniels has been named as Dealmaker of the Year in the advisor category by MiBiz.

This honor is given to an individual advisor who played a high-impact role in strategic M&A transactions completed in the past year.  Nominees are judged based on the number and types of transactions they led as well as their creativity and ability to handle complex situations during the transactions.

Daniels, who co-chairs Miller Johnson’s M&A practice, served as the lead counsel or advised on more than 25 transactions which fell into the one year period. They included many of West Michigan’s most significant transactions. He also serves as lead transactional advisor to several private equity firms. In addition, Daniels has played a pivotal role in recruiting several corporate M&A and finance attorneys to leave other prestigious law firms. These additions have aided in Miller Johnson’s M&A group being seen as a regional powerhouse.

MiBiz will hold the 2017 M+A Deals & Dealmakers Awards on Oct. 17.  The annual awards spotlight best practices and recognize excellence related to mergers, acquisitions, and deal.  In addition to Daniels being honored, two of his transactions are finalists for the Deal of the Year.  They are:

—Miller Johnson represents owners of Grand Rapids Ophthalmology in a strategic partnership with Sterling Partners (deals $25-150 M)

—Miller Johnson represents shareholders of Middleville Tool & Die Co. in equity transaction with Bayer family (deals under $25 M)

In June 2017, Daniels was recognized by Chambers USA (considered the “gold standard” in attorney rankings) as an Up and Coming Leader for Corporate/M&A.  He was honored as an “Up and Coming Lawyer” by Michigan Lawyers Weekly in 2015 and by Super Lawyers in 2016 as a Rising Star for Mergers & Acquisitions Law.

Daniels earned his Juris Doctor summa cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law and his B.S. in chemical engineering from Michigan Technological University.

He is involved with the Association for Corporate Growth and Junior Achievement of the Michigan Great Lakes.
