Michigan Supreme Court will hold administrative hearing January 23

The Michigan Supreme Court gave the following Notice of Public Administrative Hearing:

Pursuant to Administrative Order No. 1997-11, the Michigan Supreme Court will  hold a  public  administrative  hearing  on  Tuesday,  January  23,  2018,  in  the  Supreme  Court  courtroom  located  on  the  sixth  floor  of  the  Michigan  Hall  of  Justice,  925  W.  Ottawa Street, Lansing, Michigan 48915.  The hearing will begin promptly at  9:30 a.m. and adjourn no later than 11:30 a.m.

Persons  who  wish  to  address  the  Court  regarding  matters on  the  agenda  will  be  allotted  three  minutes  each  to  present  their  views,  after  which  the  speakers  may  be  questioned  by  the  Justices. ***Please  be  aware  that  comments  offered  at  a  public  hearing  must  pertain  directly  to  an  item  on  the  public  hearing  agenda.***    To reserve a  place  on  the  agenda,  please  notify  the  Office  of  Administrative  Counsel  in writing at    P.O.    Box    30052,    Lansing,    Michigan    48909,    or    by    e-mail    at ADMcomment@courts.mi.gov, no later than Friday, January 19, 2018.

1.  2002-37    Proposed Amendments of MCR 1.109, 2.107, 2.113, 2.114, 3.206, 3.901, 3.931, 3.961, 4.302, 5.113, 5.114, 6.001, 6.101, 8.117, and 8.119

Issue:  Whether to retain the amendments of MCR 1.109, 2.107, 2.113, 2.114, 3.206, 3.901, 3.931, 3.961, 4.302, 5.113, 5.114, 6.001, 6.101, 8.117, and 8.119 adopted on September 20, 2017, to make filing requirements more uniform and consistent in anticipation of implementation of a statewide uniform e-Filing process.

2. 2014-29
Proposed Amendment of MCR 2.602
Published at 500 Mich 1201 (2017).
Issue: Whether to adopt either of the proposed amendments of MCR 2.602 to establish procedural rules regarding entry of consent judgments.

3. 2015-20
Proposed Amendments of MCR 8.110 and 8.111
Published at 500 Mich 1262 (2017).
Issue:  Whether to adopt the proposed amendments of MCR 8.110 and 8.111 to explicitly provide that corrective action may be taken by the State Court Administrator, under the Supreme Court’s direction, against a judge whose actions raise the question of the propriety of the judge’s continued service and explicitly allow a chief judge to order a judge to undergo an independent medical examination in limited circumstances.

4. 2017-04
Proposed Amendment of Canon 4E(4)(a) and (c) of the Code of  Judicial Conduct

Issue:  Whether to adopt the proposed amendment of Canon 4E(4)(a) and (c) of the Code of Judicial Conduct to update the disclosure threshold for gifts made to a judge.
