Warner Norcross attorney Charles Burpee elected to Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation Board



At the end of January, Warner Norcross + Judd Attorney Charles E. Burpee was elected as vice chair of the Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation Board.

The Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation aims to provide fundraising and advocacy support for the Grand Rapids Public Library and strives to maintain an association of persons interested in using books and media for the communication of ideas; promoting the Library system, its facilities and services; and soliciting and administering funds for endowment, capital and special projects. Burpee will serve a two-year term as vice chair.

As vice chair of the Board, Burpee assists in building support and managing funds to offer an array of library programs and services designed to enrich the community and offer a positive library experience.
Burpee is a patent attorney who counsels some of the world’s most innovative companies and individuals. With a focus on intellectual property portfolios and strategy, he is most interested in creating synergy between business and technical people who often use different terminology and approach issues from different perspectives.

For his intellectual property work, Burpee has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America, who named him 2018 Lawyer of the Year in Grand Rapids for copyright law. He has been named an IP Star by Managing Intellectual Property magazine and one of the Top 100 Outstate Leading Lawyers in Michigan.

In addition to his new role on the Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation Board, Burpee serves as a board member for Dégagé Ministries and participates in Grand Rapids Economic Club. His past community leadership roles have been with the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre, Clark, Gerald R. Ford Council of the Boy Scouts of America and Planned Parenthood of Michigan.
