The Tri-County Family Law Association has been newly formed to promote high-quality transparent legal practice of family law within Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties. The goal of the association is not to alter or induce change among the existing Tri-County family law courts and Friend of the Court offices; rather, the main goal is to work together to educate and share information and skills to enhance the practice of family law in Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties through an informal forum of family court judges, mediators, Friend of the Court referees and personnel, and family law practitioners.

Other goals of the Association are to provide a forum for education, discussion, and social interaction between the bench and bar; create a strong bond and unity between all family law professionals; promote uniformity and familiarity with county practices and procedures for family law practitioners; and to promote and organize a family law presence in the local communities.

The Association meets the third Thursday of every month from 5:30 p.m. until 6:45 p.m., at various locations throughout the three counties. The next meeting will take place on Thursday, October 17, 2013, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., at the new Fireside Grill located at 6951 Lansing Road, Dimondale MI. Please RSVP to: Elizabeth@alanechartier.com to reserve your seat – seating may be limited.

The focus of the October 17 meeting is The Ins and Outs of Litigating a Custody Hearing and Trial in Each County. Don’t be left behind in this one of a kind discussion of the different processes and procedures, which will include pretrial, trial, and evidentiary procedures and nuances from the Friend of the Court office to the bench. The discussion will be led by local family law practitioner Carrie E. Huff of Alane & Chartier, P.L.C., Eaton County Judge Thomas Byerley, Eaton County Judge Janice Cunningham, Clinton County Judge Michelle Rick, Ingham County Judge Laura Baird, Ingham County Judge Janelle Lawless, Clinton County Friend of the Court Director Gary Haffey, Assistant Ingham County Friend of the Court Robert Hotchkiss, and Eaton County Referee Stephan Holland. Reserve your seat now before it’s too late! The only cost is you missing out on this great opportunity!
