Jackson Police Lieutenant Christopher Simpson, an alumnus of Lansing Community College’s police academy,  was honored with the Pat Carlton Community Leadership Award at the Leadership Jackson Graduation held April 9 at the Michigan Theatre in Jackson. The event was hosted by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and presented by South Central Michigan Works!
In his acceptance speech, Simpson said that many have inspired him along the way.

“My boss Matthew Heins has told me since day one when I started this job 23 years ago, ‘that it is all about relationships’ – establishing them, maintaining them and fostering new ones,” Simpson said.

He thanked his wife and  family who support his efforts, “even though they take me away from the home on numerous occasions.”

“I share this award with all those who have been my mentors, advisors, partners and friends in this journey,” he said. “With my wonderful current and former police officers, who over the many years have given me their wisdom, support and generosity. I share this award with my dedicated partners and brothers in arms in the Michigan Army National Guard. I share this award with the generous donors and community volunteers who give so kindly of their time, talent and resources. I share this award with the young people we serve who inspire us about the future and make us care about our legacy.”

Simpson began as a cadet in 1991 and attended Lansing Community College’s police academy.

He has since served in many capacities for the Jackson Police Department.

Simpson holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Spring Arbor University, and is a graduate from Northwestern University School of Staff and Command;  National FBI Academy in Quantico Va.; and the New Chief School through the Michigan Chiefs Association.
