Snyder appoints Maurer to Circuit Court

Gov. Rick Snyder recently announced the appointment of John D. Maurer to the 56th Circuit Court of Eaton County.

"John brings extensive knowledge and valuable experience to the bench, and I am confident he will successfully serve the people of Eaton County," Snyder said.

Maurer served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Clinton County after working as a partner in the Grand Ledge law firm of Deming & Maurer for two decades. He also served as the Mulliken Village Attorney from 2000-2008 and is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Eaton County Bar Association and the Clinton County Bar Association.

Maurer, who earned a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and a law degree from Cooley Law School, fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Jeffrey Sauter who Sauter retired at the end of April after three years as a judge.

Maurer must seek election in November 2018 to be retained for the balance of Judge Sauter's current term and again in November 2020 for a new six-year term.
