Sixteen MSU Law graduates will undertake positions with judges and courts in 2016, in places as near as Lansing and as far away as South Dakota.

“We’re thrilled to see so many students walk out of this building with their next big step ahead of them,” said Beth Wickwire, Interim Assistant Dean for Career Development.

“Clerkships are a prestigious opportunity for young lawyers to develop skills that they will use for the rest of their careers. They will work closely with judges and examine complex questions of law every day.”
Law clerks assist judges in a variety of ways, including researching statutory and case law, drafting opinions and orders, and keeping notes on courtroom proceedings.

Judicial clerkships are a competitive class of employment, often with rigorous application requirements. New lawyers who complete judicial clerkships are highly sought after by private and public sector employers due to the unique skills and insight the clerks acquire from their time with the courts.
