Latest Sheriff's Deeds News

MASON, MI--Ingham County Treasurer Eric Schertzing and Register of Deeds Curtis Hertel report today that the number of Sheriff's Deeds in Ingham County for June 2010 compared to June 2009 decreased slightly. In June 2009, 175 Sheriff's Deeds were recorded and last month 171 were recorded.

The discouraging news, however, is that the number of Sheriff's Deeds recorded by the end of June 2010 is an 11.1% increase over the same time frame in 2009. In 2009, at the end of June, 879 Sheriff's Deeds had been recorded and at the end of June 2010, 977 Sheriff's Deeds had been recorded. In the mortgage foreclosure process, a Sheriff's Deed typically starts a six (6) month redemption period for the property.

Ingham County Register of Deeds Curtis Hertel said he "wants to encourage citizens who are having trouble making mortgage payments to call 211 or visit www.holdontoyourhome.org for a referral to a financial counselor."

"The encouraging news is that it appears the market may be

stabilizing," said Ingham County Treasurer Eric Schertzing.
