Legal Secretary Job Announcement

The Office of the City Attorney is seeking a full time Legal Secretary to become part of their professional, team based atmosphere. This position provides law-centered support to Assistant City Attorney staff assigned to caseloads within the District Court system. It is an excellent opportunity for those with paralegal experience who desire to showcase mastery of their organizational skills in a legal office environment. Ideal candidates will possess:
Associate’s Degree in Paralegal or in a related field
Two (2) years of legal secretary/assistant or business or law enforcement related experience
OR an equivalent combination of training and experience
Experience providing work direction or acting in role of supervisor preferred

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Ensure attorneys have all documents required to prepare for court appearances
Maintaining Office of the City Attorney ordinance violation court files
Finalizing legal documents to submit for court filings.
Occasionally serve as a recording secretary at meetings
Maintain logs used to compile monthly reports
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Judicial Information System (J.I.S) and Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN)
Knowledge of State of Michigan Records Management System (SRMS)
Knowledge of Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) procedures and guidelines
Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point)
Strong Legal Research Skills using Westlaw and/or Lexis/Nexis
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills (detail oriented/effective time-management)
Ability to build strong working relationships with other departments and other government entities
Ability to work independently with little supervision
Ability to foresee and anticipate potential issues or problems that may arise before they happen as it pertains to this position
Ability to work in a fast pace working environment to meet deadlines
Position requires frequent face to face interaction with other department staff on various floors (walking/elevator)
