Local women honored at Economic Club luncheon
The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and the Jackson Business and Professional Women awarded their 2012 Athena Award and 2011 Nike Award at the Economic Club luncheon last week.
Jodi Snyder was honored for her prowess, strength and triumphs while facing adversity - qualities and attributes of the Nike from Greek mythology. Snyder, sole owner of ACRO Legal Copy Service since January of 2010, is a member of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life; a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity; a treasurer of United Way of Jackson County Women's Leadership Council; immediate past president of Jackson BPW; vice president of National Association Legal Secretaries of Jackson County; and secretary of the Midtown Association of Jackson.
The Athena Award, sponsored by Lloyd Ganton Retirement Centers, honors local individuals who assist women in achieving their full leadership potential. It was awarded to Eileen Lehnert, who retired from The Jackson Citizen Patriot after serving as editor for 10 years. Since retiring, she has volunteered for Family Services and Children's Aid of Jackson County, St. Luke's, the Jackson Legacy Program, Kiwanis and more. She is her church's liaison with Habitat's Women's Build, and is a member of the first board of the Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan.
The keynote speaker was Betty Overton-Adkins of Spring Arbor University, who spoke about women's role in economic growth.
