Jackson COVID-19 Action Network helps those in need

The Jackson COVID-19 Action Network, (JCAN) is bringing together local government agencies, businesses, organizations, non-profits, resident-led community groups and volunteers to provide residents with food, shelter, information and other basic needs.

Monetary donations are accepted through the United Way of Jackson County website at uwjackson.org to purchase items such as baby formula, wipes and diapers, personal care products, soap and cleaning products.

The YMCA, at 127 W. Wesley St., has assisted drop off 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays in the alley on the east side, for donations. Unassisted drop off is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the loading dock on the west side.

The Boos Community Center, in Loomis Park at 210 Gilbert St., accepts donations noon to 7 p.m. weekdays, and 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

Items will sit for several days in a secure area and be regularly wiped down.

Call the 2-1-1- helpline to be connected to JCAN and other community services; or to volunteer.
