LAD honors area attorneys and judges

Legal Aid and Defender Association (LAD) honored two judges, a law firm, a corporate law department, the Wayne County executive and a number of individual attorneys at its first Laddys pro bono service awards ceremony.

Wayne County Circuit Court Judges Timothy M. Kenny and Edward Ewell Jr. were honored with the Ed Pokorny Pioneerof Justice awards during the ceremony at the College for Creative Studies.

Attorneys Harold Gurewitz of Gurewitz & Raben, PLC and Walter Pookrum of the Law Firm of Walter Pookrum received Frank D. Eaman Warrior of Justice awards.

Clark Hill PLC was named Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year.  The Office of General Counsel of Ford Motor Co. received the Kelvin W. Scott Pro Bono Award for Excellence in Corporate Involvement.

Individual attorneys who received recognition for exceptional volunteer service through LAD’s Private Attorney Involvement Program were:

• Jacob M. Femminineo, Jr. of Femminineo Attorneys PLLC — Pro Bono Spirit-Macomb County

• Kelli E. Collins of Garian & Garian — Impact on Domestic Violence

• Karen G. Luther of Legal Aid for Children and Families, William Beaumont Hospital —  Friend of LAD

Wayne County Executive Robert A. Ficano also received a Friend of LAD award.

The following attorneys received Pangborn Pins for exceeding the State Bar of Michigan’s voluntary standard of 30 hours of pro bono service per year:
