A seminar entitled “Getting Through It: Bankruptcy Basics” was held recently at U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Detroit. The event was sponsored by Thomas M. Cooley Law School, U.S. Bankruptcy Court – Eastern District of Michigan  and Access to Bankruptcy Court, a nonprofit organization that provides free legal representation to low income consumer debtors filing for bankruptcy. Among those taking part were (left to right) Birmingham attorney Laura Lambert; John Zevalking, visiting professor at Cooley; Leslie Berg, senior attorney at U.S. Department of Justice and Cooley adjunct professor; and Lesha Evans, assistant director of Cooley’s Center for Ethics, Service and Professionalism. Lambert, a Cooley graduate, said the seminar was aimed at giving  individuals filing on their own basic information on bankruptcy and the process “so that they’re better able to get through the bankruptcy proceeding and get to the discharge stage.”
