The Civic Outreach and Criminal Law Committees of the Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, recently presented “Media and the Law: The Grand Jury Process.” Speaking at the event at the T. Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit were (left to right) Thomas M. Cooley Law School Professor Alan Gershel; Loren Khogali with the Federal Defender’s Office; U.S. District Court Judge Robert Cleland; U.S. District Court Chief Judge Gerald Rosen; Dan Lemisch, chief of Criminal Division at the U.S. Attorney’s Office; George Donnini of Butzel Long; and U.S. District Court Judge Terrence Berg. The program aimed to help the media and practitioners have a more precise and hands-on view of the grand jury process in order to enhance both the public’s understanding and the bar’s ability to practice well in the forum.
