Steeh honored by governor

Gov. Rick Snyder ordered U.S. flags within the state Capitol Complex lowered to half-staff last Friday in honor of former state Sen. George Steeh Sr. of Mt. Clemens, who died Aug. 28.

Steeh was elected to the Michigan Senate in 1956, where he represented the 11th District until 1962.

Before that, he served one term in the state House of Representatives.

Following his time in the Legislature, Steeh was appointed 41B District Court judge and served until his retirement in 1991.

He was a member of the Macomb case evaluation panel and continued as a visiting judge until he fully retired four years ago. Steeh also served in the U.S. Navy.

Steeh also served as chairman of Macomb County Democrats 1963-69, president of the Macomb County Bar Association in 1968 and a member of the State Board of Tax Appeals 1974-80.

The flag order was made in accordance with Executive Order 2013-10. Flags were to be returned to full-staff on Saturday.

Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments and other organizations also were encouraged to display the flag at half-staff.
