Elevator inspector charged with fraud

LANSING (AP) — A state elevator inspector who likes to play golf is in the rough.

The attorney general’s office filed fraud charges last Thursday against Werner Noll after TV station WWMT found him golfing in Portage during work hours last summer. The Kalamazoo man has been an
elevator inspector since 1998.

Prosecutors say he used state time for personal activities on 84 days at a cost of $8,000. Attorney General Bill Schuette says “scam artists ... will face justice.”

Three charges of fraud have been filed in Lansing District Court. The Associated Press left a message seeking comment with Noll’s attorney, Chris Bergstrom.
