Policeman completes late partner's dream to help the homeless

DETROIT (AP) — A Detroit police officer decided to honor his late partner by following through on their project to help the homeless.

WXYZ TV reports fellow officers and Officer Sidney Taylor’s family members stopped by his grave last Sunday before finishing the Man of Steel Project.

Sidney, an avid Superman fan, wanted to make care packages to hand out to the homeless before he died of heart problems in December 2014.

Sidney’s partner, Officer Mark Wallace, carried out his dream by collecting donations and rallying volunteers to distribute packages, blankets, gloves, hats, homemade scarves, and even food.

The care packages were filled with much needed everyday items including toothpaste, toothbrushes, lotion, soap, deodorant, and washcloths.

Wallace said he could feel his partner with him, every step of the way.
