The Oakland County Bar Foundation (OCBF), a nonprofit organization serving the citizens of Oakland County and the legal profession, raised more than $281,000 through its 18th Annual Signature Event to help support Oakland County-based legal aid and education programs. More than 400 individuals from the local legal community attended the event, held on April 28 at Oakland Hills Country Club.

“The support we receive from the local community, including our sponsors and donors, is essential to sustaining our grant program year after year,” said OCBF President Kaveh Kashef. “As we carry out our mission of funding and promoting organizations that provide access to affordable legal services and education, we acknowledge the generosity of those who assist us in continuing to fund these valuable programs for people in Oakland County and throughout Southeast Michigan.”

With $220,000 raised from sponsorship support and an additional $61,650 in ticket sales and donations, the event raised a grand total of $281,650, according to Kashef, an attorney with Clark Hill.

Since 2002, the OCBF has contributed more than $2 million to legal assistance and education programs, he indicated. Proceeds from events have funded grants to such worthy organizations as the CASA program (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) of CARE House, JARC, Michigan Center for Civic Education, Troy Historical Society, UDM Immigration Law Clinic, The RESTORE Foundation, and more.

The deadline for grant application submissions for the 2016-17 fiscal year is May 22. More information on the grant application process is available at http://www. ocba.org/apply-for-an-ocbf-grant.

Founded in 1999, the OCBF has grown to become a leader and trendsetter for law-based foundations nationally. Learn more at www. ocba.org/ocbf.
