On Saturday, June 3, Michigan’s largest free legal aid clinic rolls out the red carpet on the 30th edition of its annual pro bono event in Birmingham.

The Law Day event, sponsored by the Goodwin & Scieszka Law Center at 999 Haynes in Birmingham, is a “family-friendly combo,” according to Scott Goodwin, a co-founder of the firm.

Some 30 attorneys from around the area will provide free legal advice for adults at the event, while free carnival fun will be offered for children (bounce houses, obstacle courses, face painting, food, and more).

“Some of the area’s top attorneys donate their time to help local families,” said Goodwin, a past president of the Michigan Association for Justice. “It’s a great way to give back to our community.”

Two radio stations are scheduled to broadcast live at the event, which also will feature 500 free bike helmets for kids, 1,000 free hot dogs, and a chance to meet Tigers’ mascot “PAWS” from noon to 2 p.m.

Since its inception in 1987, the Law Day event has seen more than 5,000 free legal consultations and 10,000 bike helmets given away, according to Jim Scieszka, co-founder of the firm.

“Law Day has something for all ages,” said Scieszka. “Kids have a blast with the giant inflatables, face painting, and fire engines. We love giving out prizes like Tigers’ tickets and free bicycles. But the most rewarding part — always — is providing free legal consultations to families with questions.”

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 3.

The Goodwin & Scieszka Law Center is located just south of Maple (15 Mile) and east of Woodward near Walgreen’s.
