Eighth person charged in corruption probe

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (AP) — A contractor has been charged with conspiracy in an alleged scheme to bribe a public official in a Macomb County township.

The charge against Paulin Modi was filed Tuesday as an “information,” which means a guilty plea is likely.

Modi is accused of paying $1,000 to bribe an official in Washington Township in 2014. He’s also accused of helping to arrange a $2,000 bribe by a co-conspirator.

The government says the money was intended to influence the awarding of contracts.

The U.S. Attorney's Office complimented Washington Township Supervisor Daniel O'Leary for his “extraordinary assistance” in the investigation.
