Free County Parks Day May 4 features Pioneer and Twin Lake Parks

Families, residents and non-residents are invited to attend the newest event on the Muskegon County event calendar, Free County Parks Day, scheduled for Saturday, May 4, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Pioneer and Twin Lake Parks.

The two County parks will have a host of activities for the entire family, geared toward learning more about what the parks have to offer and to educate children and families on the importance of recreation and safety in the outdoors.

Both Pioneer and Twin Lake Parks have a full schedule of events on May 4, including wildlife displays by the Lakeshore Sportsmen, the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Mounted Division, the Dalton Township Fire department with a fire safety demonstration and their Spray House and Bounce House, the Muskegon County 4-H with a Small Animal Petting Zoo, MSU Extension Water Displays, the USTA with Tennis
demonstrations, and programs by the Brave Heart Raptor Rehab Center and the Lakeshore Museum Center. Many other activities will also be available, appealing to every member of the family!

Visitors will also have a chance to meet local legislators including State Senator Goeff Hansen (34th), and Representatives Marcia Hovey-Wright (92nd) and Collene Lamonte (91st), plus Muskegon County Commissioners and other elected officials.

Visitors to Free County Parks Day are encouraged to enter the raffles for 18 Annual County Parks Passes, which allow access to all County parks year-round. Raffles will be held at both parks at 11:30 a.m. and at 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. There is no cost to enter the raffle.

Pioneer Parak, located along the sandy shoreline of Lake Michigan, is located on Scenic Drive just north of Giles Road and offers camping and a variety of recreational activities for visitors. Twin Lake Park, in Twin Lake just off of M-120, has an inland lake great for swimming and fishing. Both parks have extensive picnic grounds and are great for family gatherings.

Admission to Pioneer and Twin Lake Parks is FREE for this exciting new event! Food and refreshments will be available at both parks for a nominal cost.
