Inside a tent in the parking lot of the Lakes Mall last Thursday through Sunday was a world of wonder as Cirque Italia came to town.

Not only is the unique show a European circus, it is also a water circus, with a 35,000 gallon tank and complicated equipment that makes it look like sheets of rain from the top of the tent.

Cirque Italia started in 2012 as the culmination of a dream for Italian entrepreneur Manuel Rebecchi; he descends from a prestigious European circus family.

Cirque Italia has two units, which are very similar. This time out, it sent its Gold Unit to Muskegon and Michigan (and Ohio); the Silver Unit went to Iowa and Minnesota.

For those who missed it, the Gold Unit will be in Cadillac through July 28, move on to Fort Gratiot Twp. (a little east of Flint) August 1-4 and then to Dearborn August 8-11.

The drive would be well worth it, because it is a dazzling show, complete with clowns, face-painting, photos on-stage during intermission, and incredibly acrobatic high wire artists against a backdrop of changing color. The performers number nearly 20. There is even a bigger-than-life robot whose colorful light-formed features stand out from the dark.

Norton Shores resident Dave Martinez commented, “It was an amazing show with top shelf entertainment – never a dull moment! My wife Lois and I have
attended circuses in Germany and many here in the United States. I must say this show ranks at the top.”

Both the Facebook page (www.facebook.com/cirque.italia/) and the website (https://cirqueitalia.com/) feature exciting videos of the group’s great
performances and extravagant staging.
