‘The Jim Crow Museum Virtual Tour’ on March 25
Hackley Public Library will present The Jim Crow Museum Virtual Tour at 1 pm, Thursday, March 25. The event is free.
The Jim Crow Museum virtual tour investigates the history of anti-black caricatures, propaganda, and rhetoric in material and popular culture.
Most of the collection focuses on Jim-Crow era objects, but exhibit cases that feature enslavement, Reconstruction-era, Civil Rights-era, and contemporary objects are featured as well.
These primary sources are used to document and learn from the past. Jim Crow laws, social customs, policies, and etiquette demeaned, segregated, and oppressed African Americans in a myriad of ways that continue to influence contemporary life and race relations.
In addition to teaching and opening dialogues about America’s unsavory and discriminatory history, the Jim Crow Museum promotes social and racial justice.

‘Yooper Talk’
Join the Muskegon Area District Library on Zoom with Kathryn Remlinger, Ph.D., as she discusses the social and linguistic history of English in the Upper Peninsula “Yooper Talk.”
In this fascinating presentation Dr. Remlinger will show how the social and political history of the U.P. is reflected in the variety of English spoken there.
The event is set for 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 23.

Hemingway Book Club
The Book Nook & Java Shop, 8744 Ferry Street, Montague, will host a viewing party 6 to 9 p.m., Monday April 5. Participate in-person with minimal seating, or by Zoom. Link will be posted on thebooknookjavashop.com.
The book is for sale now at the shop. This collection showcases the best of Ernest Hemingway’s short stories, as featured in the PBS documentary by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick. Includes “The Short and Happy Life of Francis Macomber,” “Up in Michigan,” “Indian Camp,” and “The Snows of Kilimanjaro."
The film “Hemingway” examines the visionary work and turbulent life of one of the greatest and most influential American writers. The series weaves together biography with excerpts from his fiction, non-fiction and personal correspondence.
