Moot court explores Miranda rights case

Wayne State University Law School hosted a moot court event for a pending United States Supreme Court case on Thursday, Feb. 18, in the Law School's Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium. The mock argument addressed Berghuis v. Thompkins, a case that was argued before the Supreme Court on March 1. Serving as Supreme Court Justices for the moot court were (seated, left to right) Professor Anthony Dillof, Professor Robert Sedler, and Adjunct Professor John Engstrom; along with (standing, left to right) Adjunct Professor Ken Mogill, Professor Jonathan Weinberg, attorney Carole Staynar, and Adjunct Professor Leonid Feller.  Elizabeth L. Jacobs (not pictured), a local criminal defense attorney and a 1974 Wayne Law graduate, presented her oral argument to the judges. She argued the issues in the case concerning Miranda rights and the scope of review for a habeas corpus petition. Photo by John Meiu.
