Wolverine Bar Association President Brandy Robinson presided over the award ceremony at the Barristers’ Ball on Saturday, April 2, which celebrated the event’s 50th anniversary.
The Wolverine Bar Association’s board gathered to celebrate the WBA’s past, reflect on the present and prepare for the future. A highlight of this year’s Barristers’ Ball was the inaugural Golden Gavel Award, which WBA President Brandy Robinson (right) presented to Vanessa Fluker for her commitment to representing distressed homeowners during one of the country’s worst economic downturns.
Judge Craig S. Strong was a recipient of a President’s Award.
Angelique Strong Marks was a recipient of a President’s Award.
Mark P. Fancher of the American Civil Liberties Union was a recipient of a President’s Award.
Attorneys and their spouses turned out in their finest for the Barristers’ Ball, including (left to right) Carl Stafford of Bodman, Elizabeth Stafford of the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Eastern District of Michigan, Reginald Turner of Clark Hill, and Marcia Turner.
Making appearances at the ball were (left to right) Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert P. Young Jr., State Bar of Michigan President W. Anthony Jenkins, and Wayne County Probate Court Judge Terrance A. Keith.

This year’s Ball marked a milestone for the WBA which celebrated the event’s 50th anniversary.
