Hallmark reappointed Probate chief judge by State Supreme Court

The Michigan Supreme Court announced the re-appointment of Linda Hallmark as the chief judge for the Oakland Probate Court. Hallmark was appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court to serve in this capacity beginning January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2013. The chief judge serves as the presiding officer and director of the administration of the court. Her responsibilities include supervising caseload management, court finances and court personnel, and she oversees the judicial and administrative work of the court.

Hallmark was appointed to the probate bench in December 1997. Currently she is also assigned to the Circuit Court family division where she hears family matters, in addition to her probate docket.

She earned a law degree from Wayne State University Law School and a B.S. from Michigan State University.

Hallmark is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Federal Bar Association, Oakland County Bar Association, U.S. Supreme Court Bar, Michigan Interprofessional Association, State Bar Association Fellows, and the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan. She was past chair of the State Bar Family Law Section Council, Oakland County Family Law Committee, and past president of the Referees' Association of Michigan. She is also a past president of the Women Officials' Network and recipient of the 2009 Wonder Women Award. Hallmark presently serves on the Executive Committee of the Governor's Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect, Executive Board of MIPA and the Family Court Forum.

She teaches Family Law at the Michigan Judicial Institute New Judges School and is a frequent writer and lecturer for the Oakland County Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, Michigan Judicial Institute, and the Institute for Continuing Legal Education.

Hallmark has held various leadership roles in her judicial career. At present, she serves as the Probate chief judge. In 2000 she was appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court to serve as chief judge of the Probate Court for two consecutive two-year terms. She was also appointed as presiding judge of the Circuit Court Family Division from 2000 to 2004.

Hallmark has appointed the Daniel A. O'Brien to serve as chief judge pro tempore.
