Jury awards $195,000 in case by show host's widow

GRAND RAPIDS (AP) -- A federal jury has awarded nearly $195,000 to the widow of Fred Trost, who hosted the popular "Michigan Outdoors" hunting and fishing television show. The Grand Rapids Press reports Sherry Trost sued Trost's son, Zachary Trost, in a dispute over debts and tapes from Fred Trost's time with "Michigan Outdoors" and another show called "Practical Sportsman." A trial ended Wednesday in Grand Rapids. Fred Trost died in 2007 at the age of 61. Sherry Trost, who married Fred Trost in 1988, said his son agreed to cover $109,000 in back taxes and loans owed by his father in exchange for tapes and memorabilia. Zachary Trost said he got rid of most of the tapes, and said that any agreement was between Sherry and Fred Trost. Published: Fri, Feb 10, 2012
