Michigan to auction more than 2,400 acres of state land

LANSING (AP) -- Michigan officials are offering more than 2,400 acres of state land for sale through an auction ending Aug. 1. The 140 properties are scattered throughout the state, with most in northern Michigan. They're suitable for a variety of uses, including hunting, camping and development. Many of the properties have been up for sale in previous auctions. They'll be available at lower starting bids through a new collaboration between the state Department of Natural Resources and Michigan Land Bank Fast Track Authority. DNR Director Rodney Stokes says the properties' prices were dropped to make buying the land for personal use more "easy and affordable." Sealed bids must be postmarked by Aug. 1. Property descriptions, photos and instructions on how to submit a bid are available on the state's website. ---------------- Online: http://www.michigan.gov/landforsale. Published: Wed, Jul 25, 2012
