County wins GFOA Award of Excellence

Oakland County has garnered the Award of Excellence for the 15th year in a row for its Fiscal Year 2011 Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

Under the leadership of County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, the Fiscal Services Division compiles the PAFR to summarize for taxpayers how the county spends their money. It is one of the ways the Patterson administration works to make county government more transparent and accessible to its residents.

"My management and budget team is the envy of county governments throughout the United States," Patterson said. "Their peers at the GFOA consistently recognize the hard work that goes into making the county more transparent to our residents."

The GFOA gives the PAFR award based on the creativity, presentation, ease of understanding and reader appeal of the financial report.

"This is a division-wide effort of financial analysts and accountants, as well as our report writers," said Tim Soave, fiscal services division manager. Soave said special recognition belongs to Fiscal Services Supervisor II Gaia Piir, who manages the compilation of the report.
