OFF THE PRESS

Brinks, Hofer, Gilson, & Lione announces the availability of its new “IP Tool Kit,” a resource binder of information for dealing with routine intellectual property legal matters including IP agreements, IP policies and procedures for companies, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets and IP for information technology and social media. The IP Tool Kit project was overseen by Steven L. Oberholtzer, managing partner of Brinks’ Ann Arbor office and a member of the firm’s Board of Directors. He is also the author of the firm’s “IP primer,” an introduction to the basics of intellectual property law, now in its third printing.

“Intellectual property issues arise regularly in business. Unfortunately, if intellectual property matters are not addressed properly, a permanent loss of property rights can result,” explained Oberholtzer. “Steps can be taken early to avoid pitfalls and provide maximum protection for these assets. While IP legal counsel can assist at an early stage, we understand that it is not always practical to engage them at every stage. The Brinks ‘IP Tool Kit’ is a resource for reference and information purposes to help young companies and even established ones identify and address important IP issues early.”

The Brinks “IP Tool Kit” is geared to entrepreneurs and start-ups. In addition, small companies and large companies that have an infrastructure for handling intellectual property matters will find this new resource helpful.
