Semifinalists unveiled for 2013 Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition

Following an active pipeline of almost 300 submissions, the Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition (AMIC) is pleased to announce this year's semifinalists for its international business contest. The Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition is a global business contest aimed at fostering entrepreneurial activity within Michigan's vibrant start-up community. The competition runs in two tracks - international business and Michigan collegiate students. "Year over year, we continue to be impressed by the talented and determined entrepreneurs the Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition attracts from across the globe," said Lauren Bigelow, executive director of the competition. "This year's cadre in particular is displaying an extremely positive energy and passion, which given the recent events in Detroit, is truly inspiring. I think I speak for everyone when I say that were excited to see what this year's innovators bring to the table and the impact they'll have on our great state!" After a review process by AMIC's panel of investor judges, 51 semifinalists will vie on Thursday, Nov. 14, for more than $1 million in cash and prizes. Business from as far as India, the United Kingdom and across the United States, submitted executive summaries for the 2013 competition. Under the eligibility requirements, businesses were categorized under one the following sectors: * Advanced Materials. * Alternative Energy. * Information Technology. * Life Science. * Medical Device. * Next Generation Manufacturing. * Products & Services. * Transportation/New Mobility. The Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition is an international business competition offering more than $1 million in cash prizes and in-kind awards. The competition is a collaborative effort of the New Economy Initiative, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Quicken Loans / Opportunity Detroit and the Business Accelerator Network for Southeast Michigan.
