Incoming students at Cooley Law School’s Auburn Hills campus tackled ethical issues arising in law practice with members of the bar during orientation proceedings on Sunday, May 4.

Conducted in cooperation with the State Bar of Michigan (SBM), the Professionalism in Action session featured SBM Presdient-elect Thomas Rombach as the keynote speaker.

Before the professionalism program, Cooley students pledged an oath to uphold Cooley’s Honor Code. The oath states that students will refrain from lying, cheating, stealing, plagiarizing and tolerating all others who do.

Oakland County 51st District Court Judge Jodi Debbrecht-Switalski spoke on the importance of ethics in both the study and practice of law before administrating the oath.

Students discussed difficult ethical issues that may arise in the practice of law during small break-out sessions at Cooley’s Professionalism in Action Orientation.
