Detroit 'Care' building demolished after lawsuit

DETROIT (AP) - Demolition has begun on an empty five-story building in Detroit that housed the offices of AAA Michigan for decades and prominently featured the word "Care" painted on one wall. Excavators tore down most of the building last Tuesday. The city had sued building owner Triple A Ventures saying it was a public nuisance. A Wayne County judge ordered it be demolished three weeks ago. Detroit-area musician Kid Rock featured it in the video for his song "Care." Paramount Pictures paid $35,000 to use it for filming "Transformers: Age of Extinction." AAA was located in the building from 1926 until it was damaged in a fire in 2005. Detroit controls the empty land surrounding the building. A Farmington Hills developer is in negotiations to build an apartment complex on the block. Published: Tue, Aug 26, 2014
