Business Law Section to discuss government investigations, Nov. 20

The State Bar of Michigan Business Law Section’s Commercial Litigation Committee, In-House Counsel Committee, and Small Business Forum will present a seminar, “Governmental and Internal Investigations: What In-House and Outside Counsel Need to Know,” from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Columbia Center located at 101 W. Big Beaver Road in Troy.

Bharat Gandhi, In-House Counsel Committee chair, and Douglas Toering of Toering Law Firm and chair of the Commercial Litigation Committee and Small Business Forum, will moderate the event.  The speakers will include Mark Chutkow, assistant United States attorney; Thomas Cranmer of Miller Canfield; Joseph Papelian, Delphi deputy general counsel-litigation; and Richard Zuckerman of Honigman.

The discussion will address many scenarios.  These include advising a corporate client on an investigation by the government or representing a panicked employee who finds out the company has begun an internal investigation. The discussion will also help attorneys identify the client, address conflicts of interest, determine whether the U.S. Department of Justice (or the company) will keep the investigation confidential, and more.

The fee to attend is $25 and registration is required by Nov. 13. The event will include a light supper. For additional information about the panel discussion, visit http://www.michbar.org/business/calendar.cfm or call 248-953-9022.
