MSU student death case closes with last sentencing
ST. JOHNS, Mich. (AP) - A court case surrounding the death of a Michigan State University student has ended with the sentencing of the third and final person involved.
Brendan Heim, 17, was sentenced to at least 32 years in prison for his role in the February death of Dustyn Frolka of Owosso. Heim pleaded guilty to first-degree murder last month. He received the longest sentence of the three defendants, all from Saline, for the planned robbery and assault that led to the MSU sophomore's death.
Frolka was killed on Feb. 15 after Heim began beating him with brass knuckles in the back of an SUV. Frolka either jumped or was pushed out of the vehicle as it drove along a highway, according to authorities. He later died at a local hospital.
Tyrel Bredernitz, 18, was sentenced earlier this month to at least 25 years in prison, the Lansing State Journal reported. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for helping plan the robbery and being in the front seat of the SUV during the incident.
Samantha Grigg, 18, was sentenced earlier this year to at least six years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter and unarmed robbery. She was driving the SUV the night Frolka died.
