Judge orders ex-Tigers pitcher Reed to trial in sex assault case

DETROIT (AP) - A judge has ordered ex-Detroit Tigers pitcher Evan Reed tried on sexual assault charges involving a woman who says she believes he drugged her before attempting sex with her.

Detroit 36th District Judge Shannon Walker last week sent the case to Wayne County Circuit Court for trial. Reed's first hearing is March 13.

Prosecutors successfully appealed an earlier judge's decision to dismiss the charges.

A 45-year-old woman says she met Reed the evening before last opening day at a suburban bar and they went to a downtown Detroit casino hotel. She says she blacked out after drinking and awoke naked in bed with Reed.

The 29-year-old Reed says their sex was consensual.

He is a free agent after appearing in 32 games last season for Detroit and 17 with Triple-A Toledo.
