Western Michigan University Cooley Law School's seventh annual spring charity event raised $4,177 for the Oakland County Animal Control and Pet Adoption Center. The event, which featured live music by Lions to Nowhere, comedy and magic from Chris Linn, and a silent auction, was held on Sunday, June 7, at Cooley's Auburn Hills campus.

The Oakland County Animal Control and Pet Adoption Center includes a shelter that houses animals found by the center's Road Unit as a result of abandonment or cruelty, as well as strays and animals taken in because their owners can no longer care for them.

"This event was a fun way for WMU-Cooley's students, faculty, and staff to help the Oakland County Animal Control and Pet Adoption Center provide care and services for the animals in the community," said Lisa Halushka, WMU-Cooley assistant dean.

Proceeds from the event will go to the center's Legacy Fund, which will be used for the betterment of animals at the shelter, including vaccines, specialty foods, and emergency medical treatment. After treatment, the animals are then available for adoption into their forever homes.

Previous beneficiaries of WMU-Cooley's spring charity event have included: The Oakland Mediation Center's Olweus Anti-Bullying Training Programs, the Detroit Public Schools Homeless Children and Youth Programs, For the Seventh Generation, and the Macomb County Veterans Treatment Court.
