Carjacking suspect kicked by police is convicted

DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit man seen in a video being punched and kicked by police during his arrest for carjacking, robbery and other charges has been convicted at trial.

Court records say a judge last Thursday found 51-year-old Andrew Jackson guilty of charges including carjacking, armed robbery and assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer. He was found not guilty of charges including assault with intent to rob while armed.

Sentencing is scheduled for July 10.

Jackson was arrested Jan. 12 by auto-theft unit officers. A woman made a video showing Grosse Pointe Park and Highland Park officers beating and kicking him in a Detroit neighborhood. The officers were working with a regional auto-theft unit.

The prosecutor's office in April said there would be no charges against the officers.
