County planner instrumental in acquiring $1M in grants honored by Clinton River Trail Alliance

Kristen Wiltfang (cetner) was awarded a certificate of recognition by the Clinton River Trail Alliance for her work obtaining grant funding to map, design and coordinate efforts to develop the 16-mile trail, which runs through five Oakland County communities from Sylvan Lake to Rochester. A senior planner in the Oakland County Department of Economic Development & Community Affairs was honored for her role in obtaining nearly $1 million in grant funding to help develop the Clinton River Trail.

Kristen Wiltfang, 35, was awarded a certificate of recognition by the Clinton River Trail Alliance for her work obtaining grant funding to map, design and coordinate efforts to develop the 16-mile trail, which runs through five Oakland County communities from Sylvan Lake to Rochester. The certificate was signed by city leaders from Auburn Hills, Pontiac, Rochester, Rochester Hills, Sylvan Lake and Fred Phillips, president of the Friends of the Clinton River Trail.

“The fine work Kristen has done for the Clinton River Trail and so many other projects enhances the quality of life that makes our county such an attractive place to live and work,” Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said. “I congratulate Kristen and commend the Clinton River Trail Alliance for recognizing the talents of one of our employees.”

Representatives from several of the communities surprised Wiltfang, giving her the award during a recent economic development staff meeting. She is a graduate of Michigan State University and Eastern Michigan University and has worked in the Planning Division since 2002.

“In addition to her extraordinary effort and valuable insight, her endeavors have resulted in the acquirement of nearly $1 million in grant funding to further enhance the safety and enjoyment of trails throughout each respective community,” the certificate said.

Wiltfang was humbled by the recognition.

“It’s such a joy to work with such talented people,” Wiltfang said. “They have a common vision of creating unique spaces along the trail for the enjoyment of the residents and the communities. They make my job fun.”
