Local firm defends client against $2.2 million claim

Attorneys Rodger Young and Jaye Quadrozzi are part of the litigation team at Young & Associates in Farmington Hills. The firm also has an office in New York City.

Farmington Hills-based Young & Associates, a boutique law firm specializing in complex business litigation, has successfully represented noted businessman and philanthropist Wayne Webber, president of Webber General Properties Inc., by defeating a multi-million-dollar suit brought by Webber's former attorney, Michael J. Biber.

Young & Associates founder Rodger Young and attorney Jaye Quadrozzi represented Webber at trial.

The dispute initially arose in 2005, when Biber was acting as Webber's attorney in the sale of his business for $220 million. Biber alleged that in addition to the compensation originally agreed upon in his contract, he was owed a 1 percent performance bonus, which amounts to roughly $2.2 million. Young and Quadrozzi successfully obtained a jury verdict of zero damages.

"We are extremely pleased with the result of this trial in favor of Mr. Webber," Young said. "This is a case in which our team was able to illustrate a very clear picture of the dispute and to prove that our client had behaved in a fair and entirely justified manner. As a Detroit-area firm that specializes in winning trials and is focused on providing the highest quality legal expertise, we are committed to delivering valuable results to our clients."

Local attorneys Ken Burchfield of Burchfield, Park, & Pollesch and I.W. Winston of Honigman, Miller, Schwartz, & Cohn represented Biber at trial.

This is the first pairing of attorneys Young and Quadrozzi since they successfully secured a $15.2 million settlement for NorthPointe Capital, a boutique Troy based investment adviser, against insurance giant Nationwide Corp. In that case, Young & Associates represented the plaintiffs, while in the Webber matter the firm utilized its trial talents to represent the defendant.
