Carjacking suspect kicked by police gets sentenced to prison

DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit man seen in a video being punched and kicked by police during his arrest for carjacking, robbery and other charges has been sentenced to prison.

Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Michael Hathaway last Friday sentenced 51-year-old Andrew Jackson to 45 to 50 years for carjacking and armed robbery; 10 to 15 years for other charges including resisting or obstructing a police officer; and two years for using a firearm in a felony.

Jackson was convicted last month. He also was found not guilty of charges including assault with intent to rob while armed.

Jackson was arrested Jan. 12 by auto-theft unit officers. A woman made a video showing Grosse Pointe Park and Highland Park officers beating and kicking him in a Detroit neighborhood. The officers weren't charged.
