Car festival featured drag strip at Silverdome

PONTIAC (AP) - A car festival featuring a drag strip where attendees could drive their own cars has taken over the grounds outside the Pontiac Silverdome.

The Detroit Free Press reports thousands of car enthusiasts were at the Wednesday event dubbed Roadkill Nights in suburban Detroit. It's the first time the event has been held, and is part of four days of Dodge activities in conjunction with the Woodward Dream Cruise.

More than 7,000 people signed up to drive on the event's drag strip. The event also let people take thrill rides with professional drivers.

The Silverdome went up for sale earlier this year. The Lions last played there in 2002 before moving to Detroit's Ford Field.
