Bond denied for camp counselor accused of child porn crimes

DETROIT (AP) - A federal magistrate has denied bond for a 21-year-old man charged with producing child pornography by taking photos of boys in a locker room while working at a day camp in suburban Detroit.

The Detroit News reports that U.S. Magistrate Elizabeth Stafford argued Tuesday that Matthew Kuppe is a danger to the community.

Kuppe was fired as a counselor at the Jewish Community Center which operates camps in Oakland County's West Bloomfield Township and Oak Park. Kuppe lives in West Bloomfield Township.

Prosecutors said locker room photos of naked 5-year-old boys were posted on a Russian website. The photos are believed to have been taken during a camp sleepover.

Defense attorney Walter Piszczatowski had asked Stafford to release Kuppe to his parents' custody.
