Archer Award winners to be honored at DIA

Two jurists who figured prominently in the resolution of the Detroit bankruptcy case will be honored as the 2015 recipients of the prestigious Archer Award this fall.

“This year’s award will be presented to two of the chief architects of our city’s recovery, U.S. District Chief Judge Gerald Rosen and retired U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Steven Rhodes,” said Lorraine Weber, executive director of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Foundation.

The honorees will be saluted on Thursday, Nov. 19, during a gala reception at the Detroit Institute of Arts, the venerable institution that was given a new lease on life during the bankruptcy proceedings, thanks in large measure to Judges Rosen and Rhodes. The event will run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the DIA.

“The Detroit Bar Association and its Foundation share a longstanding commitment to the City of Detroit and its surrounding communities, and this year’s Archer Award gala promises to celebrate the revitalization of Detroit while honoring two of the individuals who played a significant role in its renaissance,” said Weber.

Proceeds from the event, which is named in honor of former Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer, will benefit the Foundation’s Access to Justice efforts and the work of its foster children’s charity, For The Seventh Generation, which served more than 1,000 foster children and families in 2014, according to Weber.

Tickets to the gala are $150 per person and reservations can be made online at www.detroitlawyer.org or by calling 313-961-6120.
