'Defensive Employment Practices' topic of ACC-MI program

The Association of Corporate Counsel, Michigan Chapter (ACC-MI) will present “Defensive Employment Practices for a Changing World” on Tuesday, Jan. 12, from 8 to 10 a.m at the offices of Maddin Hauser, 28400 Northwestern Highway, Second Floor Essex Center, in Southfield.

The overview of the event will show that employees are at the heart of any business, and a positive employee-employer relationship is one of a company’s greatest intangible assets. Smart employers understand the need to be prepared, however, if the relationship begins to sour — effective defensive employment practices are key.

Ronald Sollish, shareholder at Maddin Hauser, provides an overview of key defensive practices that every employer can implement to safeguard their employment position.  Among the topics of discussion will be:
• Understanding and Defining the Employer/Employee Relationship.

• Employer Due Diligence, Background Checks and Employment Applications.
• Creating Appropriate Disciplinary Record.
• Protected Classes and Employment Discrimination Claims.
• The National Labor Relations Board’s Attack on Employee Handbooks—and How It Affects All Employers.

Registration is $20 for ACC members and $25 for non-members. There will be an additional $5 charge to register at the door.  To register online, visit http://www.acc.com/chapters/mich/ and click on “events.”  For additional information, e-mail Darlene Trudell?at dtrudell@detroitlawyer.org.
