Environmental due diligence seminar offered by OCBA

When a client is ready to close, are you confident that they know all the environmental risks and liabilities associated with the piece of property? "Avoiding the Abyss: Environmental Due Diligence in Real Estate," presented by the Oakland County Bar Association's Energy, Sustainability and Environmental Law Committee along with the OCBA's Real Estate Committee, will cover the basics of environmental due diligence in real estate transactions.

This program will take place on Wednesday, June 15, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in Auburn Hills.

Attorney Brian Considine, of Dawda Mann, Counselors at Law, will cover the legal liabilities and risks associated with the sale and purchase of brownfields or properties with other environmental issues such as wetlands or endangered species. Nicholas Maloof, president and general counsel of Associated Environmental Services LLC, will discuss assessing the environmental condition of real property though ASTM Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments, natural resource assessments, and hazardous building material surveys and environmental insurance. David Michael, of Lipson, Neilson, Cole, Seltzer, & Garin PC, will teach attendees how to draft transactional documents to minimize environmental liabilities and spread risk.

Appetizers and drinks are sponsored by Dawda Mann, Counselors at Law.

This seminar is certified for two CE credits for real estate agents. It is presented with the support of the Commercial Board of Realtors and officially certified by CE Marketplace.

Pre-registration is recommended since seating is limited. Pre-registration for this lecture ends June 14, at 5 p.m.; however, walk-ins are welcome. To register, go to www.ocba.org/events.
