Murder charges reinstated in firefighter's death

DETROIT (AP) - A judge has reinstated charges against two people in the fatal beating of a 59-year-old Detroit firefighter.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says Tuesday that Nicole Oneill and Christian Rasnick are again charged with murder. Oneill also is charged with armed robbery.

Tim Soto is charged with murder and accused of delivering the blow that killed David Madrigal.

Madrigal's body was found Dec. 21, 2015 in his ransacked home by his son after the firefighter failed to return telephone calls. He was a 26-year fire department veteran and planned to retire this year.

The prosecutor's office won an appeal of another judge's earlier dismissal of murder charges against Oneill and Rasnick.

They face pretrial hearings on Sept. 6 and an Oct. 17 trial. Soto faces a Sept. 12 competency hearing.
