Citizen swearing-in ceremony part of international festival

SOUTHFIELD (AP) - A popular festival highlighting various cultures from around the world will include a swearing-in ceremony for new U.S. citizens in suburban Detroit.

The Nov. 18 swearing-in will kick off the 90th annual International Festival at the Southfield Pavilion, north of Detroit. More than 50 people from 23 countries were sworn in at last year's event.

The festival will be held Nov. 19-20 and feature Indian, African, Spanish, Bulgarian, Korean, Mexican, Middle Eastern and Albanian music and dance performances. There also will be craft-making workshops, cultural exhibits and demonstrations.

Jewelry, fabrics, other gift items and international food will be available for purchase.

The International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit and the city of Southfield are two of the event's sponsors.
