Firm chairs Michigan World IP Day

Harness Dickey is pleased to announce that the World Intellectual Property (IP) Day event for Michigan will be held Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation in Dearborn. This year’s speaker will be best selling author and radio host John U. Bacon.  Residents, Scouts, students and innovators from across Michigan are encouraged to attend and participate.

World IP Day is an annual international event that educates and raises awareness about the role of intellectual property in our daily lives.  Young innovators will be led through dynamic and interactive activities — including a scavenger hunt — designed to encourage an appreciation for intellectual property and an understanding of the process for turning ideas into patented inventions, recognized brands and copyrighted subject matter.  The World IP Day program will be integrated into The Henry Ford’s monthly event “Make Something in the Month of May.”

“We are very excited to bring World IP Day in Michigan to The Henry Ford,” said Harness Dickey Principal and event Chair Beth Coakley.  “Having John U. Bacon on board adds so much fun to the event, and, of course, we are ever so grateful to The Henry Ford for hosting this program given the IP rich environment of the museum.”

Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts who attend the event will be able to work toward earning merit badges.  Girl Scouts will be eligible to receive their IP Patch by completing various assignments available during the program, while Boy Scouts will satisfy some requirements for the Inventing Merit Badge by learning about inventors, patents and patent infringement, and other aspects of intellectual property.  Troop Leaders are encouraged to contact The Henry Ford or its website to learn more about Troop discounts.  For those who are interested in learning more about the State Bar of Michigan Patent pro bono program, a review of these resources will also be available at the conclusion of the
program.

World IP Day is a global event sponsored by the World Intellectual Property Organization, United States Patent and Trademark Office, and American Intellectual Property Law Association.  The Michigan World IP Day 2017 is chaired by Harness Dickey and sponsored by the Intellectual Property Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan, the event’s gold sponsor.
