DNR needs people at parks with green, dirty thumbs in July

STEVENSVILLE, Mich. (AP) - Do you enjoy pulling weeds in your yard? Michigan could use you at a state park or recreation area.

The Department of Natural Resources is looking for volunteers throughout July at a dozen sites in southwestern and southeastern Michigan.

The DNR says the chores likely will include yanking invasive plants and cutting invasive shrubs. The goal is to restore balance to natural areas. The parks range from Grand Mere and Warren Dunes, both near St. Joseph, to Belle Isle in Detroit.

More information and a calendar are available at www.michigan.gov/dnrvolunteers.
